In pursuit of knowledge,
every day something is added.
In the practice of the Tao,
every day something is dropped.
Less and less do you need to force things,
until finally you arrive at non-action.
When nothing is done,
nothing is left undone.
True mastery can be gained
by letting things go their own way.
It can't be gained by interfering.
Lao Tzu - (Tao Te Ching, chapter 48, translation by Stephen Mitchell)
In order to add light, you must drop black.
Since black does not synchronize with light, you can not add light to black.
Less and less you force black, until you arrive at non-desire, and leave it to the flow that light guides without acting on the basis of self-interest.
Then, everything is settled to the best without your control.
If you aim at rulership, a big black works.
It attracts another black commensurate with that big black.
If you entrust yourself to light, you will go the shortest way for the growth of your soul, and you might be a ruler on your way if you are needed.
It may not rule people, but give light to people.
